Nordic sagas, and Nordic medieeval time
LEGENDE will through the songs open up doors to the adventurous travels of the Vikings.
LEGENDE will also take you back to the medieval time. In the northern countries this was a time of new cultural influence from the south.
To go back in history and express this musically, is for us like a discovery travel. With our music we try to illustrate how life may have been, and in this way making history alive. We are especially inspired by the period 900AD- 1300AD, and by legends from this period. . During a concert the audience will travel with us along the routes the old norsemen went with their ships, by foot or by horseback. We sing about the dangerous voyages to Greenland , Vinland and Vesterveg (western route ) .We sing about venturous travels in Austerled (eastern route ) to Novgorod and down to Miklagard ( Bysantz ).
Our program consists mostly of songs with our own lyrics and melodies along with some old Norwegian trad. leys. We live in Telemark where the tradition of medieval songs is strong. Some songs have been given directly to us from old people like a lullaby from Shetland islands in old Norwegian dialect. Our music is inspired from the travels the Vikings and medieval people of Scandinavia made, and also from our own travels to historical sites both here in Norway and abroad such as Vinland ( New Foundland ), The British islands , and Normandy in France.
LEGENDE consists of: Harald and Mari Foss. On some events the group is expanded by additional musicians.
